The United Methodist Women are a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Mt. Moriah’s United Methodist Women’s group meets six times each year as a whole and monthly in smaller Bible studies, called circles.
The United Methodist Women (UMW) meets on the first Monday of the months of February, March, May, September, November and December. These meetings are open to all women for an evening of fellowship, inspiration and information. Devotions, music and programs are designed specifically for women’s interests.
Once a year, we try to gather on or off site for a Women’s Retreat -a dedicated “time-away” of spiritual reawakening and fellowship.
- Call to Prayer and Self Denial – This annual observance gives local and district units a chance to study and reflect on a particular theme each year and to designate funds for ministries related to the theme for the year.
- World Thank Offering – An opportunity for individuals to respond to God’s abundance and grace with spontaneous gifts of gratitude. The funds collected are used in the total program of mission carried on through UMW’s national office in the United States and around the world.
Smaller, more intimate groups called Circles meet separately from our General Meeting. Each circle has a Bible study and a mission project to work on throughout the year. We currently have two circles open to women of all ages and stages of life to accommodate our varied schedules:
- Jochebed meets 3rd Monday, 7 p.m. in the Learning Center Parlor
- Susanna meets 3rd Thursday, 7 p.m. in the Learning Center Parlor
Mission Projects supported by UMW
Youth Service Projects
The UMW supplies scholarship money to help cover expenses of the youth for mission trips.
Pastor’s Discretionary Fund
UMW donates money from fund raising events to the Pastor’s discretionary fund, which is distributed to those in need within our community at the discretion of the Pastor.
Along with other groups of Mt. Moriah, we provide Christmas presents and food for community families in need.
Selected Missions and Special Requests
We support international charities through UMCOR, local charities such as Sauls’ homeless shelter, Southeastern Ecumenical Ministries (SEM) and Inter Parish Ministry food pantries. We also help to promote Mt. Moriah’s mission and vision through campus improvements and support of our Ark of Learning, a Christian Preschool and Child Care Program.
